Village Hall

The village hall was built on the current site in 1946. Several additional rooms and improvements have been made over its 78 year history and the hall holds hosts many activities as well as being available for private hire.

The Hall

The Hall consists of the main function area with a large conservatory on the side of it. A social area with serving counters next to a large kitchen. There is a meeting room at the rear of the property. The toilet facilities were refurbished in late 2022.

There are six storage rooms and a small office off the meeting room, currently used by the Parish Council. Outside there is a car park with parking for approximately 16 vehicles and disabled spaces. There is an enclosed garden/recreation area and large grassed open area to the other side by the main entrance. The hall is available for hire or the meeting room, more details below.

Local Arts and Crafts, Jams & Pickles, Vegetables and Eggs, refreshments available in Salters cafe with a wide selection of cakes and savouries and bacon rolls.

Hall History

Marshchapel Village Hall was built on the current site in 1946. The original building still forms part of the current Hall but several additional rooms and improvements have been made over the years. The Hall has been used for many functions during its 78 year history and was once the focal point of social activities in the village.

The hall has hosted bands, discos, wedding receptions, funeral wakes, christening parties, birthday parties, weekly dances, fitness lessons, dance lesson, indoor bowls, markets, fairs, fetes, national celebration events (Coronations, Royal Weddings etc.).
The Hall was registered as a charity from the very beginning and continues to to meet its original objectives which were to provide a range of recreational activities, intellectual, sporting, educational events and classes whilst providing a place of entertainment for the people of Marshchapel and the surrounding area.

With this in mind the Hall currently provides a range of regular activities and events for wide range of ages. There are weekly children’s’ dance classes, adult fitness training, the local infants school use the hall for their PE classes and there is short mat bowls. For ten months of the year there is an Artisan Market and monthly bingo sessions. Throughout the year there are suppers, dinners and other social events which bring the community together and some help us raise funds.

St Mary’s Church

The church of St Mary’s is known locally as ‘The Cathedral of the Marshes’. The church has monthly services and is open during daylight hours for visitors.

The Chapel

The Chapel is well supported by the village and holds events as well as a weekly ‘pop-in’ lunch. There are also numerous other groups who use the facilities.

Marshchapel Arts

Marshchapel Arts host various music concerts and art exhibitions at St Mary’s church which are always well supported by the community and beyond.
